Sunday afternoon was a relatively warm November day so as Olive and I walked around the farm I allowed her a little extra freedom and time to sniff and explore. She was being good and staying close...until she decided to explore a new area. I called her to come back to me. My yell was relatively urgent as I noticed a wire on the ground. Surely it wasn't on...right? but still..."Olive! Come!" As the words left my mouth a loud "YELP" exploded from her little mouth and she managed to some how leap further in the air than I had ever seen and in her amazing feat of levitation lunged forward and managed to run to the house in record setting pace. I followed behind her only to catch up to her shaking and gagging in terror. It was an electric fence...for cows...not little dogs! I wouldn't allow her in the house until the gagging had stopped and once inside, she appeared calmed and quickly back to her normal self. Monday morning as we headed out, she again, seemed to have no memory of Sunday's events. Upon my return home from work in the afternoon and my asking her, "Outside?" which were followed by her leaping with excitement. We once again headed out. To my surprise she sat shaking at the back door refusing to move. I ended up putting the leash on her and tugging her along to all her favorite spots. Tuesday morning: we're still on the leash.
