Day 2

How my dog feels about knitting
So, this year I had several knitting projects that I wanted to get to and haven't. Mostly mittens, a scarf or two and a Christmas stocking. Most years I go through the same routine...see a mitten in a store, want to buy it, tell myself, "I can make that!" and...well, my bag of ideas becomes so full that nothing gets started. This year, however, there is one project that MUST be completed: the Christmas Stocking! It's my Nephew Micah's first Christmas (with us) and while my sister and her husband will no doubt participate in the magic that is Santa in their home, Grandma will, most certainly, also have the jolly old man enter her home! And with that...there is nothing more special than a handmade stocking to use throughout the years and remember the auntie that made it for you. My brother, sister, and I have used the same stockings our entire lives that were crocheted by my Dad's oldest sister, Bonnie. They are a tradition in our home and though Santa has become older now and has insisted that a Walmart bag of stocking-stuffers with our special stockings layed ever so gingerly on top is the new "status quo", my sister and I will forever remember the many many Chirstmases where Dad took too long to come in from milking and we quietly and gingerly took everything out of our stockings, traded nail polish colors, socks and underwear till both were happy, and ever so carefully placed the contents precisely back in place to wait for the special time to come where we could practice our "I'm so surprised, this is just what I wanted" looks. Now, I realize that in knitting Micah's stocking I set a precedent that any more nieces or nephews to follow will need the same, but I am prepared to do this that they may have the same magical Christmas morning that my sister and I have had for so many years!
